ST MICHAEL'S NOWRA

Faith and Virtue

Principal : Irena Blinkhorn

St Michael's is a K - 6 Catholic Primary School situated in Nowra on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. We have 50 staff and approximately 600 students. The children have specialist music and library lessons each week. The school has 21 classrooms as well as a library, a Learning Centre for children with learning difficulties, a school hall, a video room, a music room, a tuck shop and a large multipurpose covered area.

Religious Education in St Michael's School is the focus of all our activities. The Gospel values taught by Jesus are the foundations of our school life. Our school philosophy is based on Jesus' command to "love one another as I have loved you." The school is situated on a large parcel of land with grass and asphalt playing areas. A well-known landmark in the front play area is an old camphor laurel, affectionately known as "The Big Tree".

Participation in sport is encouraged with opportunities for children to participate in local school competitions as well as competing against other Catholic schools in the Wollongong Diocese. St Michael's has annual swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals. Children performing at a high level are selected to represent the school at regional carnivals where they may be selected to compete further and represent at state or national levels.

Music is a vital part of life at St Michael's enhancing class and school liturgies. Places in the school choir are highly sought after each year as the children look forward to participating in the Shoalhaven City Eisteddfod and combined schools Music Festivals. All children have the opportunity to be a part of our bi-annual musical that proves a hit each time.

The School Captains, Prefects and Sports Captains play an important role in setting a good example to other children, promoting school and team spirit, and conducting School Assemblies.

The school's tuck shop is operating under the healthy schools policy.
